Myvanwy Birds was born in Ireland and moved to the south of Italy at the age of six. She received a bachelor’s degree in French and Italian Literature from University College Cork in Ireland.  After graduation, she worked as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in France, Italy, South Korea, and Russia. While in South Korea, she focused on teaching fifth and sixth graders in the Korean public-school system. Simultaneously, she obtained her master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) and began to mentor other ESL teachers.  After six years in Korea, she moved to Moscow and spent the next three years working with teenagers and adults to help them successfully pass their English Langauage Cambridge Exams.

Marriage and professional life brought Myvanwy to Chicago four years ago. After completing her initial Montessori teacher training, she worked in Highland Park Montessori. She firmly believes in the methodology and she is now in the process of completing her middle-school teacher training at School of the Woods, Houston, Texas.  She is excited to start her new position at Crystal Lake Montessori, a beautiful country school with a loving community.

Myvanwy loves playing the Irish harp especially in traditional sessions. She and her husband, Michael, enjoy adventurous travels especially when it includes a nice fire, good company, and great conversation.
