Ms. Kay has always loved teaching. As a child she spent many hours playing “school” with her 3 younger sisters and the neighbor children, and she was always the teacher.

Ms. Kay has a passion for fostering learning, building students’ self-esteem and empowering individuals.  She supports each student in his or her unique learning style in many subject areas at all levels, including reading, writing and math. Ms. Kay believes the 15 years she spent steeping in the Montessori method and teaching 3–6 year olds prepared her to teach students with a variety of learning styles. Two of Ms. Kay’s students could not sequence the letters of the alphabet at the age of 17, but went on the enroll in and earn certificates at their community colleges.

Ms. Kay is a Level 1 certified Barbara Wilson Reading Instructor. The Wilson Reading System uses multi-sensory and kinesthetic methods to teach reading. Ms. Kay has worked with students aged 3 to 53 for 13 years. Ms. Kay is a student at Northeastern Illinois University earning a Masters of Arts in Literacy. It is her hope that all her students will become life-long learners.
