CLMS has achieved recognition as an International Peace site and a Certified Wildlife Habitat. We are one of few Montessori schools fully accredited by the American Montessori Society.
Crystal Lake Montessori was founded in 1981 and housed in a small building in Ridgefield, Illinois until 1985 when the current property was purchased and construction for the new school began.
By 2001 the school contained 13 Montessori classrooms serving Infants through Middle School students. Additional rooms for Art and Music, along with a gym and stage were built.
Crystal Lake Montessori school became an International Peace Site in 2004. Partnering with
World Citizen, we embrace their mission to empower communities to educate for a just and peaceful world.
Being an International Peace Site means that CLMS is committed to the following 5 PEACE ACTIONS:
“Peace is what every man has been craving for, and it can be brought about by humanity through the child.”
- Dr. Maria Montessori
The mission of CLMS is to provide an inclusive Montessori education in partnership with the family that nurtures the whole child – socially, emotionally, physically, and academically – on their journey to become global citizens.
Crystal Lake Montessori School is committed to equal opportunity and respect for diversity. The school does not discriminate based on race, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy, national origin, age, socio-economic level, religion, learning style, genetic information, or physical ability.
